Improvement to Wetherby's Gas Supplies

Wetherby is set to benefit from an upgrade to its gas supply thanks to a £137,000 investment boost by Northern Gas Networks.

United Utilities and Morgan Est will carryout the work on behalf of the region’s gas pipeline owner. The project is scheduled to start on August 10th and is expected to take approximately nine-weeks to complete. The bulk of the work has been scheduled for the school holidays to help minimise disruption.

Engineers will replace 1.3km of old metal mains with modern plastic pipe to ensure the safety and reliability of gas supplies in the area for decades to come.

Pipe will be replaced on Ainsty View, North Grove Road, Ainsty Garth, Poplar Avenue, Ainsty Drive and Barleyfields Road to replace old metal gas pipe with modern, plastic pipe.

Northern Gas Networks and United Utilities apologise for any inconvenience experienced by residents while these essential gas works are carried out. Northern Gas Networks’ Director Chris Gorman said: “We will do everything we can to minimise any disruption. This year, Northern Gas Networks will invest £82 million renewing gas mains to ensure that our system remains one of the safest in the world.

“The good news is that we will be using modern technology to reduce the number of excavations we need to complete the work and our new plastic pipes are more durable and flexible and have a lifespan of at least 80 years.”
