The work is being carried out by United Utilities and Enterprise on behalf of the region’s gas pipeline owner Northern Gas Networks. It involves replacing 102 metres of old metal mains with modern plastic pipe to ensure the safety and reliability of gas supplies in the area for decades to come.
United Utilities will be hosting a public information session about the project on July 27th between 5.30pm and 7pm in the council chamber at Keighley Town Hall on Bow Street.
In order to carry out the work it will be necessary to close Worthway from the junction with Wellington Road to the junction with Coney Lane. Hanover Street will be closed from the junction with Worthway and Lower Street. Both closures will be in place for the duration of the project. A signed diversion route will be in operation for all road users.
Local bus services will continue to operate and will follow the diversion routes, customers are advised to check with the relevant bus company regarding any changes to timetables.
Shops and businesses on Worthway and Hanover Street will remain open as usual throughout the work.
United Utilities apologise for any inconvenience caused to motorists, businesses and residents while the work is carried out. A Customer Liaison Officer will make regular visits to the area to ensure that residents are kept informed of progress.
Northern Gas Networks’ Director, Chris Gorman, said: “We will do everything we can to minimise any disruption. This year Northern Gas Networks will invest £82 million renewing gas mains to ensure that our system remains one of the safest in the world.”
“The good news is that our new plastic pipes are more durable and flexible and have a lifespan of at least 80 years.”
