The mains improvement project is due to start on the 6th of July with major works beginning on the 20th of July. The project is expected to last 16 weeks. During this time, work will be carried out on Keighley Road and Kirkgate from the junction with Mill Banks to the junction of New Road. Pipe will also be laid on Clog Bridge and Howden Road to the junction with Ings Way. New pipe will also be laid on: Albert Square, Hainsworth Road, Howden Road, Banklands, Oak View and Cragg View.
A public information session will be held at Silsden Town Hall on the 24th of June between the hours of 5.30pm and 8.30pm. Engineers will be on hand to discuss the project with residents and traders.
It will be necessary to put two-way temporary traffic lights on Keighley Road from the junction with Mill Banks to the canal. The lights will be moved along the road as the project progresses.
Once the engineers reach the junction of Kirkgate, Keighley Road and Clog Bridge, three-way lights will need to be put in operation. Both sets of temporary lights will be manned between the hours of nine and five to help minimise disruption.
It will be necessary to close Keighley Road and Kirkgate to access from Elliott Street, Aire View and New Road when we are working on this section of the project. We intend to carry out this phase in the summer holidays to help minimise disruption.
In total, just over 1km of old metal mains will be replaced with modern plastic pipe to ensure the safety and reliability of gas supplies in the area for decades to come.
Northern Gas Networks and United Utilities apologise for any inconvenience caused to residents while these essential gas works are carried out. Northern Gas Networks’ Director Chris Gorman said:
“We will do everything we can to minimise any disruption. This year, Northern Gas Networks will invest £82 million renewing gas mains to ensure that our system remains one of the safest in the world. The good news is, our new plastic pipes are more durable and flexible and have a lifespan of at least 80 years.”
