Work will start on the 6th of April to upgrade the gas mains on Market Street and Kipping Lane, it is expected that the work will take approximately six weeks to complete.
The work is being carried out by United Utilities and Enterprise on behalf of the region’s gas pipeline owner Northern Gas Networks.
0.2km of old metal mains will be replaced with modern plastic pipe to ensure the safety and reliability of gas supplies in the area for decades to come.
In order to maintain the safe flow of traffic while engineers are working, there will be no parking on Market Street for the duration of the project.
United Utilities apologise for any inconvenience caused to motorists, businesses and residents while the work is carried out.
A Customer Liaison Officer will make regular visits to the area to ensure that residents and businesses are informed of progress.
Northern Gas Networks’ Director, Chris Gorman, said:
