Work is on-going to restore gas supplies to properties in Linton, near Wetherby, following a loss of pressure affecting around 225 homes of Thursday December 4th.
Northern Gas Networks and its operating partner United Utilities instigated a full emergency response to the situation. This involved visiting all homes in the affected area to carry out essential safety checks.
The problem was caused by water which had entered the gas mains system. Engineers worked through the night to isolate the problem and they have safely siphoned out 300 litres of water from the local gas mains system. Supplies are now being restored to homes and it is expected that this will be completed today.
An on-site incident room has been set-up at the village hall where fan heaters and hotplates are available for loan.
Customers are advised not to attempt to re-connect their gas supplies, there are important safety checks which must be carried out first. Engineers will be visiting all affected properties to re-connect supplies. All United Utilities engineers carry identity cards, please ask for proof of identity of anyone who asks for entry to your home.
Northern Gas Networks would like to apologise to all affected customers. For customer enquiries please contact the United Utilities customer service team on 0191 511 6940.
