Scores of homes and businesses in Sunderland have had a £335,000 boost to their gas supplies.
Engineers working for United Utilities have completed a major project to renew gas mains in the Hylton Castle area. The work was carried out on behalf Northern Gas Networks.
Almost 4.2 kilometres of old metal mains in and around Caledonian Road were replaced with modern plastic pipe to ensure the safety and reliability of gas supplies in Sunderland for decades to come.
Northern Gas Networks’ Director Chris Gorman said: “We spend more than £60m a year renewing gas mains to make sure our system remains one of the safest in the world.”
