Engineers working on behalf of Northern Gas Networks, have completed a scheme to replace a kilometre of old metal gas mains with modern plastic pipeline on Bradford Road.
The project was carried out by engineers from United Utilities and Enterprise and forms part of a £4.1 million programme of works to upgrade Kirklees gas mains network in Kirklees this year.
Barry Watson from United Utilities said the Bradford Road project was vital for the on-going safety and reliability of gas supplies to homes and businesses in the Fartown area.
He said: “The new plastic pipes we have used in Bradford Road are more durable and flexible than the metal mains they replace. Now they are in the ground they will have a lifespan of around 80 years
