PARK GUARDIANS GET REWARD The volunteers who look after Harold Park in Low Moor, Bradford, went quackers after receiving a cheque to help them in their regeneration work. It was feeding time for the ducks as they celebrated a £2,180 donation from Northern Green Networks, the environmental support scheme operated by gas distribution company Northern Gas Networks.
The organisation, the Friends of Harold Park, was one of 15 - of them in the Bradford area - to share the £50,000 pot which Northern Gas Networks made available to organisations planning and providing local green schemes across northern England. The group's chairman Angela Tait said she was delighted with the donation. "The park is a real community asset in the area and the funding we have from the Northern Green Networks scheme has allowed us to build a floating island for the lake, with another to follow, and we have plans for an interpretive board which will help visitors identify the different wildlife we have in the park," she said.
The award was made by Dave Hutchison, the gas company's Head of Health, Safety and Environment. "Northern Green Networks is our way of delivering cash injections to community groups which are delivering real improvements in their local areas," he said.
