Hundreds of homes in Shelf are to get a £250,000 boost to their gas supplies.
Engineers working on behalf of Northern Gas Networks will start replacing gas mains in and around the Shelf Moor Road area during the week commencing Monday, 19th November.
Just over four kilometres of old metal gas mains will be replaced by modern new plastic piping during the 12-week programme. This year Northern Gas Networks will replace more than 520km of old metal gas mains across the region.
Chris Gorman, network director for Northern Gas Networks, said projects like the one in Shelf were vital for the safety and reliability of the gas supplies to local families and businesses.
The majority of the work will be completed using the ‘insertion’ method where the new plastic pipe is pushed inside the old metal main. As well as speeding the work up, this method also reduces the amount of digging in the highway we will need to do.
The work will be carried out in phases beginning in the Soaper Lane, Shelf Moor, Stannage Lane and Witchfield Hill area.
Chris Gorman explained: “We appreciate that our work will be inconvenient but we will do everything possible to keep the disruption to the absolute minimum.”
