Brighouse Gas Work: End in Sight

Vital gas mains improvement work in Halifax Road, Brighouse, is almost complete, gas engineers said today.

United Utilities began work at the end of January to replace 80-year-old gas mains with brand new plastic pipe.

The company runs the gas pipeline in Yorkshire on behalf of Northern Gas Networks which is investing £150,000 in the scheme.

Engineers are set to complete the work by the end of next week. And the road should be back open as normal from April 13.

Richard Felton from United Utilities said: “The scheme has gone very well and we have been very pleased with progress. The gas pipe under the road dated to the 1920s so had to be replaced.

“Engineers are on target to complete the work by Good Friday and then the holes will be filled in the following week. We want to have Halifax Road open as normal by next weekend.

“Residents and motorists using this road have been very patient. We thank them for their understanding and support.”
