The giant landmark, used to store gas, is owned by Northern Gas Networks.
Local artists will illuminate the structure on Friday and Saturday from 9.45pm as part of the “I Love West Leeds Festival”.
The film features photographs taken by local artists in and around West Leeds.
The initiative has the support of United Utilities which runs the gas network on behalf of Northern Gas Networks.
Standing at 35 feet, the gas holder dates to 1954 and is 178 feet in diameter.
Northern Gas Networks spokesman Richard Felton said: “We are delighted that our gas holder is starring in the I Love West Leeds Festival. This gasholder provides a valuable role in storing gas for this area of the city and is also a very popular landmark for the community.”
Jane Earnshaw, I Love West Leeds director, said: “It’s great to see these artists getting such large-scale profile for their work. All their pictures have been heavily influenced by living in and around the West Leeds area, so the projections have got a strong local feel to them.”
The festival, designed to champion the West Leeds area, is now in its second year. It runs until July 15
