Engineers from Northern Gas Networks, the gas distributer for the North of England, are carrying out essential gas mains repair works at Chester Road in Stanley today (Monday 15 May 2017).
Gas supply to local properties has not been affected.
Due to the depth of the main and the complexity of the engineering work involved, in order to carry out the repair safely and efficiently it has been necessary to introduce four-way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Humber Hill and Chester Road.
These are expected to be in position until the end of this week, and it’s likely the traffic management will result in extended journey times so motorists are advised to plan extra time for travel.
Andy Coates, Site Manager for NGN said: “The safety of the public and our engineers is our number one priority and in order for us to carry out the repair as quickly and safely as we can, it’s necessary to introduce these four-way lights.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may experience and thank everyone for their patience and support as we look to complete this work as quickly as possible.”
