The north of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), began work to complete an upgrade to ageing metal gas mains in the Yeadon Drive area of Southowram on Monday (20 July 2015).

The project is part of NGN’s on-going development of infrastructure across the north of England and involves replacing the existing metallic gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The essential work, which is expected to take around a week to complete, sees work taking place at the junction of Law Lane, Cain Lane and Pinnar Lane.

The work has been carefully planned in conjunction with Calderdale Council to take place at the same time as the council’s work to re-surface Law Lane, which involves a daytime road closure (between 8:00am and 5.00pm).  A signed diversion route is in place.

In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently, Pinnar Lane is closed throughout the duration of the work and four-way traffic lights are in place at the junction of Towngate, Cain Lane, Yeadon Drive and Law Lane. Access is being maintained for buses via Towngate.

Northern Gas Networks Construction Services Area Manager, Paul Jagger said;

“We’ve planned our work closely with Calderdale Council to minimise disruption for residents, businesses and road users in the town. The council is providing a shuttle bus service for road users while the work is taking place.  Buses are also operating under a revised bus schedule while the road is being resurfaced so there is less traffic on the road than usual, which we hope will minimise the disruption caused.

He added: “Our engineers are working 7 days a week in order to complete the work as quickly as possible. We’d like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank members of the public for their patience and support.”
