Important information: Potential delay to your meter installation

Between 19 May and 6 June, it may take longer than usual to arrange the meter installation with your gas supplier. This is because of an Ofgem initiative to replace the IT systems used across the UK gas market. It involves all gas suppliers and will ultimately make it easier for you to switch supplier and/or get a smart meter. You can find more information about Project Nexus on Ofgem’s website.

Vital upgrade for York’s gas supply

Northern Gas Networks is about to start work to upgrade ageing metal gas mains in York city centre.
The project is part of Northern Gas Network’s on-going development of infrastructure across the north of England and will involve replacing existing metallic gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.
The eight week project will start on 5 January and take place on Nunnery Lane, Bishop Thorpe Road and Scarcroft Road. On Nunnery Lane, it will be necessary to close one lane of the carriageway to allow the essential work to be completed. A signed diversion route will be in place.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place on Bishop Thorpe Road and Scarcroft Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times throughout the duration of the essential work and businesses will remain open as usual.
Bob Hope, Construction Services Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said: “We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank members of the public for their patience and support.
“Our Customer Care team has been door-knocking residents and businesses in the area to help ensure they are aware of the work and we have been working closely with the local Highways Authority to minimise any disruption to traffic.
“In addition, a customer cabin will be located at the car park on Nunnery Lane throughout the duration of the project so that members of the public can drop in and ask questions or raise any concerns. The cabin will be open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 11am and 1pm.”
