Infrastructure upgrade for Castleford
Northern Gas Networks is investing £90,000 to replace approximately 610m of ageing metal gas mains in Castleford with durable new plastic pipes to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to residents in the area for years to come.
The essential work will commence on Monday 5 January 2015 in Ambler Street and is expected to take eight weeks to complete. Work will be carried out on a street-by-street basis starting with Ambler Street moving on to Pretoria Street, Smawthorne Lane and ending on Lower Oxford Street.
Shops and businesses will remain open as usual and every effort will be made to minimise any disruption to residents, businesses and motorists. Northern Gas Network’s Customer Care team will be talking to residents and businesses on a regular basis to ensure that everyone is kept up to date with the progress of the essential work.
John Pickering, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said; “We have planned our work closely with the council, to minimise disruption to both residents and motorists. However, it has been necessary to put into place a number of traffic restrictions to allow the work to progress.
“ Ambler Street will be closed to traffic from 12th to 26th January with signed diversions in place. Parking spaces on Lower Oxford Street will be suspended from 19th January due to the location of the gas main. Alternative parking for residents will be provided at the car park located on Vickers Street.
“For bus users, temporary bus stops will be in place where parking suspension is in force.
“Northern Gas Networks are working hard to ensure that residents, businesses and motorists are inconvenienced as little as possible during our work. Our teams will be working Monday to Saturday 7.30am to 5pm to get the work completed as quickly as possible.
Mr. Pickering added, “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding.”
