Northern Gas Networks is investing £120,000 to replace ageing metal gas mains in Victoria Place, Carlisle, with new durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to residents in the area for years to come.
Work will commence on Tuesday 6th May and is expected to take six weeks to complete.
In order to carry out this work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to close Spring Gardens Lane for approximately two weeks from 12 May.
In addition, one lane will be closed on Lowther Street from the junction of Spring Gardens Lane for one week from 12 May.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
Matty McBride, Site Manager, Northern Gas Networks, said: “In advance of the work taking place, our Customer Care Officers have been speaking with local residents and businesses owners to ensure that they are aware of the work.
“A customer forum was also held by Northern Gas Networks representatives, providing members of the public with the opportunity to ask questions or raise any concerns.”
Mr McBride added: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and reassure members of the public that we will do all we can to complete the work as quickly as possible.”
