Engineers from Northern Gas Networks are carrying out emergency work to repair a damaged gas main in Bradford.

The essential work will involve replacing a stretch of old iron gas main with modern, more durable plastic pipes which will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to hundred’s of customers in the town.

The work is taking place on Thornton Road between the junctions of Listerhills Road and Quebec Street and is expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete.

In order to carry out this essential work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to install temporary traffic lights on the road.

Michael Burdett, Construction Manager said:

“We’d like to apologise to pedestrians and motorists for any inconvenience caused while these essential repairs are carried out. The safety of members of the public is always our first priority and we’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation.”

Anyone who smells gas should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
