The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has donated £1,000 to keep Boston Spa blooming.

NGN are carrying out vital maintenance work in the village by replacing old metal pipes with more durable plastic ones.

The work started on Monday 10 July on Spa Lane and is expected to last around 32 weeks with 3km of pipes being replaced as part of the £475,000 project.

The scheme is registered as a Considerate Constructor Scheme site, and as part of the scheme’s pledges, NGN’s Customer Care Team visit local schools and charities to explore ways of making a difference to the lives of people living where engineers are working.

Every summer, Boston Spa enlists the support of 80 volunteers to ensure Boston Spa is continually flourishing with a variety of plants in a range of colours.

Katherine Lee, Northern Gas Networks’ Customer Care Officer, said: “At NGN we are committed to supporting the communities where we work. We hope the contribution will help the group continue making Boston Spa a lovely place for all residents in the area to benefit from.”

Jeff Newton, Chairman of Boston Spa In Bloom, said: “We are very pleased to receive a donation from NGN and whilst we are not looking forward to the works in the village it will be good to have the gas supply network upgraded for the long term. In addition the donation will enable us to improve the appearance of the centre of the village in the shorter term.”

Anyone that smells gas or suspects Carbon Monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
