The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) is saying thank you to the town of Pickering with a special contribution to support a local environmental project.

NGN invested £205,000 to upgrade ageing gas mains on Hungate earlier this year, in a 12-week project which saw old metal mains replaced with new, more durable plastic pipes.

The outstanding co-operation of local businesses and residents helped NGN engineers finish the work on schedule so to thank the community for their support, the gas transporter has contributed £1,000 towards Pickering Town Council’s tree planting scheme.

The scheme is due to begin at the Woodlands Community Park in 2018, which will provide recreational space for the people of Pickering across 22 hectares.

NGN Customer Care officer Kati Sexton recently handed over the cheque to Councillor Helene Haythorne, the Town Mayor of Pickering, who said: “On behalf of Pickering Town Council, I would like to thank Northern Gas Networks for their generous contribution of £1,000 towards our tree planting scheme at the Community Park.

“Given the size of the park a considerable number of trees will have to be planted to soften the landscape and make it less exposed the elements.

“This donation will help fund what is going to be, over the years, an ambitious tree-planting scheme.”

NGN Customer Care Officer Kati added: “At NGN we fully appreciate the impact our works can have on customers, and would like to thank the local businesses and residents of Pickering for their patience and understanding. Their co-operation has been fantastic throughout.

“We understand the town is investing in tree planting and recreational space, and as a company working hard to ensure minimal impact on the environment this is definitely a project NGN wants to support.

“As a small gesture of thanks we would like to contribute £1,000 towards the scheme.”
