The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £110,000 to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in Station Road, Ossett.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and will involve replacing 800 metres of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The project, which begins on Monday 22 August and will last approximately eight weeks with an estimated completion date of 14 October, has been planned in conjunction with Wakefield Council to ensure all works are completed with as little disruption as possible.

In order to minimise disruption, the works will be carried out in two phases. Phase One will begin on Station Road on Monday 22 August and last approximately two weeks.  During this phase, two-way temporary lights will be placed on Station Rad to manage traffic flow.

Phase Two will then begin on Monday 5 September in and around Sunnydale Park and will take around six weeks to complete.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and engineers will be working Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm.

Josh Hampshire, Construction Services Area Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Wakefield Council to carefully plan this project in order to minimise any disruption to customers.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”
