The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), has donated signs and barriers to Town End Academy Primary School in Sunderland for their ‘Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme’.

NGN distributes gas to customers throughout the North of England including Sunderland and Durham, where the company’s 150-strong customer contact centre is based.

OPAL is a mentor supported programme to deliver sustainable and safe play which is supported by Ofsted.

The barriers and signs were donated so that a construction area could be created in the school making play more fun and constructive.

NGN made the donation after staff were informed about NGN’s work with schools.

Alex Brightman, Customer Care Officer said: “It’s great to be able to support children’s learning about recognising roadworks and staying safe and to help promote fun and positive play with our donation of barriers and signs.”

Teacher Aisha Smith said: “The donation is very gratefully received and we thank Northern Gas Networks. It is great that they are willing to support local schools in the community. The barriers and signage will ensure that the children continue to have a positive and constructive playtime.”
