Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN) will begin essential repair work on the gas distribution system at Railway Cottages, East Boldon on Friday 21 October 2016.

Gas supply to customers will not be affected, however in order to carry out the work as safely and efficiently as possible it will be necessary to close part of Tile Shed Lane to traffic for three days.

Tile Shed Lane will be closed from the junction of the B1298 New Road and Boldon Lane eastbound, over Tile Shed level crossing and down to Tile Shed Crossing Cottages.

This section of the road will be closed to vehicle traffic both ways.

Access to Tile Shed Lane from Cleadon will be open to residents only, from the Cleadon Lane junction down to Tile Shed crossing.

The road closure will come into effect at 9.30am and is expected to be removed by Monday 24 October. The railway line and train services will not be affected and a fully signed diversion will be in place for motorists.

NGN has been working closely with Network Rail and South Tyneside Council to plan the project and minimise disruption to customers.

NGN Site Manager Mick Smith said: “We know that no one likes roadworks and would like to thank members of the public for bearing with us while we carry out this essential work which will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.”
