The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is carrying out an essential upgrade to the gas network in the Ladgate Lane area of Middlesbrough.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the area’s gas infrastructure and will involve replacing over 120m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers for years to come.

The three-week project began on Friday 14 October 2016 and has been carefully planned in conjunction with the local highways authority.

In order to carry out the works safely and efficiently, two-way traffic lights will be placed on the B1380 from Monday 17 October 2016 for the duration of the project.  The lights will be in place just outside the entrance to Cleveland Police headquarters and the entrance to Middlesbrough Municipal golf club on Ladgate Lane. The lights will be manually operated between the hours of 6.30am and 9am, and 3.30pm and 6pm to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers have been door-knocking local homes and businesses to make customers aware of the work, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the scheme.

Stuart Armin, Construction Services Area Manager for NGN, said: “We have been working closely with the local council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise any disruption to customers.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting it completed as safely and quickly as possible.”
