The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is carrying out essential gas mains diversion works at Anlaby Road opposite Hull Royal Infirmary.

The major project of diverting a large length of gas main away from a section of carriageway due for improvement began on the 29 March and is due to finish on 1 July.

Temporary closure of bus lane:

In order to complete the works as safely and as quickly as possible it will be necessary to introduce a temporary lane closure in the westbound bus lane of Anlaby Road.

This will be in place from Anchor House up to the junction of Linnaeus Street for from 13 June for around three weeks.

Access to Hull Royal Infirmary:

Emergency vehicles will be able to access the lane at all times however all other hospital traffic approaching from Anlaby Road will need to follow a short signed diversion to the Infirmary entrance on Arlington Street.

Footpath closure:

At the same time it will also be necessary to close the footpath on the southern side of Anlaby Road from the junction of Linnaeus Street to Convent Lane. There will be a clearly signed diversion route in place for pedestrians to follow.

Site manager for NGN Alan Robley said: “We’ve been working closely with Hull City Council and Hull Royal Infirmary to carefully plan these works and do all we can to minimise disruption to road users and pedestrians.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused, and thank our customers for their patience in helping us complete these works as quickly and as safely as we possibly can.”

Councillor Martin Mancey, Portfolio Holder at Hull City Council with responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “We understand that this temporary closure of the bus lane is essential and we will work with Northern Gas Network to reduce, as far as possible, the inevitable disruption to the travelling public, but would request all road users and local residents to be tolerant, patient and understanding whilst these vital works are being carried out.”
