The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £250,000 to upgrade the ageing metal gas distribution network in West Busk Lane, Otley.

The major project is part of NGNs’ ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and will involve replacing 2.7km of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers in the area for years to come.

The project, which begins on Monday 11 April and will last approximately 18 weeks, has been planned in conjunction with Leeds City Council to ensure all works are completed with as little disruption as possible.

Russ Oxley, Construction Services Area Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Leeds City Council to carefully plan these works in order to minimise any disruption caused.”

The project will be carried out in phases on a street-by-street basis from Monday 11 April starting at West Busk Lane and continuing to Prestwick Close, Kineholme Drive, Bradford Road, Sunnydale Crescent, Milner Bank, Laurel Bank, Acre Cliff Cottages and Maylea Drive.

In order to complete the works as safely and efficiently as possible, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place on Bradford Road from Sunday 26 June until Friday 22 July in order to ensure the safe flow of traffic.

All bus services will run as normal, however there will be temporary bus stops in use as existing stops will be suspended during each phase of the work.

In order to complete the works as quickly as possible, our engineers will be working from Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm with weekend work completed when required. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Russ continued: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank you for your patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”
