Northern Gas Networks is carrying out vital work to replace ageing metal gas mains in Otley Road, Shipley with new plastic pipes to ensure the safe and reliable supply of gas for customers in the area for years to come.

The first phase of this essential gas mains replacement work, which began yesterday (Monday 21 July), is located at a busy road traffic junction with Dockfield Road. Northern Gas Networks has been working in conjunction with Bradford City Council to closely monitor the site since work began.

Wayne Fisher, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said: “We know that no one likes roadworks and we are working hard to minimise the disruption caused to members of the public.

“Over the last 24 hours we have listened carefully to feedback from road users and have worked closely with the council to make a number of changes to help assist traffic flow. The temporary traffic lights are now being monitored remotely from the councils control centre with timings adjusted according to traffic flow and we have extended working hours to include longer days and weekends so that the work is completed as quickly as possible.

“We would like to extend our apologies to all those affected.”

The project has also been planned in conjunction with Bradford City Council so that the majority of the high impact works take place during the quieter school holiday period which begins tomorrow (Wednesday 23 July).

The total project is expected to take around 11 weeks to complete.

If you would like to speak to us please call Northern Gas Networks’ Customer Care team from 8am and 10pm Monday to Friday, and 8.30am and 5.30pm on Saturday by calling 0845 634 0508, and selecting option 7.
