Northern Gas Networks, the gas distribution network for the north of England, has donated a truck full of plastic, yellow safety barriers to The West Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) in Farnley, to help create a safe outdoor area for disabled students to play.
The Learning Centre caters for 30 students aged 4-19 years with complex and multiple learning needs.
Lead Teacher, Sarah Riley, said: “One of the things our students really love to do is spend time outdoors, especially now the weather is nice, but our only outdoor space on-site is also used for car parking and minibus drop off, so our students had to be watched very closely.”
Mrs Riley added: “We are very grateful to Northern Gas Networks for donating these barriers which have enabled us to create safe outdoor areas for independent play much sooner than would have been possible if we’d had to raise the funds ourselves.”
Chris Nevison, Customer Operations Area Manager, said: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to help the West Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre out with our donation of safety barriers. It’s great to see that something so simple can have such a big impact on the quality of life for the centre’s students.”
