Engineers from Northern Gas Networks carrying out work to repair a gas main on the Durham Road (A177) , near North Tees General Hospital in Stockon-on–Tees, have put two way temporary traffic lights in place between Harrogate Lane and Hardwick Road and closed pedestrian footpaths to allow essential repairs to be completed.
Ian Parkin, Site Manager, Northern Gas Networks, said: “There is currently a strong smell of gas in the area but the situation is safe. We’d like to apologise to pedestrians and motorists for any inconvenience caused while these essential repairs are carried out.
“Our engineers are working hard to repair the escape as soon as possible. The safety of members of the public is always our first priority and we’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation.”
“Anyone who smells gas should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.”
