Engineers from Northern Gas Networks are conducting essential works to repair a gas main in Narrowgate Road, Alnwick.
In order to carry out the essential repairs safely and efficiently, engineers have had to temporarily close a section of Narrowgate Road between the junction with Fenkle Street and Paikes Street.
The road closure is expected to be in place for up to 7 days. Pedestrian access will be maintained and businesses in the area will remain open as usual.
Northern Gas Networks Network Officer, Denny Ingram said, “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. The safety of members of the public is our priority and we are working hard to repair the gas main and reopen this section of road as soon as possible.
“A short diversion will be clearly signposted, taking motorists along Fenkle Street and Market Street.”
Anyone that smells gas should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
