Northern Gas Networks is investing £77,000 to upgrade the ageing pipe network in Leeds.

The scheme is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure across the North of England and will involve replacing existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers for years to come.

The project which commenced on Monday, 1st July 2013 in the Sweet Street area of Leeds, will be carried out in four phases over a 10 week period.

To enable us to carry out the work safely and efficiently, for the duration of the gas mains replacement project a one way traffic diversion will be put in place, meaning there will be no left turn onto Sweet Street from Marshall Street. Diversion signs will be in place to direct traffic in a loop along Jack Lane and along Meadow Road, where access will be maintained onto Sweet Street.

Parking in the bays along Sweet Street will not be possible for the first six weeks of the project.
Phases three and four of the project (commencing in mid-August) will involve closing St Barnabas Road for approximately four weeks, and suspending parking on Ingram Street and Ingram Row.

Richard Hynes Cooper, Customer Operations Area Manager for Leeds said; “We have been working closely with Leeds City Council to minimise traffic disruption during this essential gas mains improvement work.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding, and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
